DIET CULTURE DAY:

SAN DIEGO

Saturday Jan 27, 2024

Diet Culture Day: San Diego is a first-of-its-kind single day wellness summit, open to all ages, backgrounds, bodies and journeys.

This full-day group experience will help you challenge your beliefs and elevate your holistic health, with a special focus on tuning inward to customize a sustainable wellness plan for your real life.

Transformative workshops centered around reframing your relationship with dieting, mindset, nutrition, movement and stress will be paired with group yoga, breathwork, meditation, real food, honest reflection and new local community.

You will leave informed, inspired and empowered.

Meet Your Facilitators

  • Dr. Katie Schlein (DC)

Dr. Katie is a native San Diegan, who believes health and healing is not a destination but a life-long journey.

She serves many athletes and pregnant/postpartum people. The relationship with food, body image and the intersection of the two within our culture is ever present within her practice and life. She sees first-hand the detrimental effects, cultural norms and mental health impact around these topics.

Her athletic background and history of recovering from an eating disorder has made her passionate about shifting the conversation around the athletic mentality, post baby 'bounce back body', and beyond.

She loves her friends and family, is a passionate member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and hopes through normalizing vulnerable conversations, we as a society can shift the paradigm to radical self acceptance and bodies changing to be a proud and beautiful thing, while supporting others in this healing conversation.

  • Shannon Cury

Shannon is a San Diego based Breathwork Coach, passionate about getting people out of their heads and back into their bodies for deeper levels of authentic presence and self acceptance.

After 10 years sprinting up the corporate ladder, Shannon finally stopped running from her body when she was diagnosed with cancer at the end of 2020 (super chill year!). Throughout the course of chemo, she dedicated herself to mind body soul healing through rest, meditation, breathwork, writing, and Sour Patch Watermelons.

Shannon has been in remission since 2021 and has dedicated her energy to living authentically and supporting others in doing the same ever since. Finding safety in her body is a lifelong journey and she is forever grateful to the power of the breath for being the tool that first helped her find safety.

You can find Shannon throughout San Diego hosting breathwork sessions at Sunset Cliffs, The Healing Collective in OB, and pop ups throughout the community. She works with private clients looking to elevate their life through the power of the breath. She also hosts Corporate Breathwork Workshops to heal hustle culture from within.

  • Dominique chapman

Dominique has been in the movement and wellness industry quite some time - putting heavy emphasis on vulnerability, change and body awareness.

Through her past experiences with dance, she has a constant desire to keep growing and evolving with her clients, friends & family through mindful and nurturing movement.

For her, there’s never an end goal, there’s only right now.

She currently runs Crave Collective, known as the local serotonin dealer, which brings fun and funky pop up events all over San Diego’s hot spots!

  • Ethan Schiff

At age 26, Ethan was 312 lbs and had been dieting for a decade, eventually asking the life-changing question “what if diets don’t work?”

This question led to a several year process of mindset shifts and unlearning misinformation, resulting in a 130 pound weight loss journey. But most importantly, to a unique approach towards health, centered around rethinking toxic diet culture and designing an empowered and personalized approach.

Today, he runs Optimized Health, a virtual health coaching practice helping people around the country hit their health goals in a practical way. He hosts The True Health Podcast, is a public speaker and event organizer, and creator of Diet Culture Day.

  • We’ve been asked if our events are designed for the Intuitive Eating or Health At Every Size movement. While we support these beliefs and integrate many concepts from this approach in our work, we don’t exclusively focus on the language and wording of these movements. Our entire focus is around everyone personalizing their own approach to food, movement and body based on their personal life needs, so with that in mind do not formally tie all of our language to any movement - even ones we firmly support.
